Summary: When every salesperson creates their own contracts, revenue becomes guesswork.
What was happening
The sales team was working on commission across dozens of newsletter clients. Each person created their own agreements. The contracts looked different. The pricing varied. Fulfillment had to chase down specs from whoever closed the deal. Accounts receivable had payment dates written on scraps of paper and no clear contacts for follow-up. Customer service was drowning in fires that started upstream. Revenue collection was slow. Bottlenecks were everywhere. The system was fragmented at the seams.
What I did
I sat between sales, fulfillment, and accounting for three months. Built a unified rate card that everyone could use. Created standardized contract templates that eliminated the guessing. Digitized the whole workflow. Mapped out who talks to who at each stage. Accounts receivable now knew exactly who to contact about payments. Fulfillment had direct lines to the right people for specs and approvals. Sales had ready-to-execute agreements that moved faster. I identified where the resource gaps were. That led to hiring dedicated fulfillment staff. Relieved the pressure on customer service. Maintained the system as it took root.
What changed
Reflective: Revenue flows when the handoffs are clear.
